Prime Minister of Malta visits FIMBank on its 10th year anniversary - The Malta Independent

‘The success of the financial sector is areflection of Malta's success’, said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday during a visit to FIMBank.

Dr Gonzi was welcomed and shown around the premises by FIMBank president Margrith Lutschg-Emmenegger and chairman Najeeb Al-Saleh.

The Prime Minister's visit coincided with the 10^th anniversary of FIMBank's establishment.’These past 10 years since FIMBank's inception represent the enormous steps forward the financial industry hasd taken in Malta,’, he said.

Although the founders of FIMBank started out with an ambitious vision 10 years ago.’FIMBank has more than surpassed what it set out to achieve,’ he added.

‘Through the work of these people, an infrastructure was set up which has made Malta highly competitive, as is reflected in FIMBank's growth,’ said Dr Gonzi.

FIMBank has 80 employees in Malta and another 40 in its overseas offices. Over 90 per cent of the employees are Maltese.

‘It is exciting that the bank is continually looking at foreign opportunities,’ said Dr Gonzi. ‘FIMBank's success is also due to its continuos investment and training in human resources. Your success will benefit our economy.’

FIMBank was established in Malta in November 1994 and commenced business operations in June 1995. The company's core activities are international trade finance, including ship scrapping finance, trade finance services provided to banks and trading companies, and commercial lending to trade related customers.

Since FIMBank's foundation in 1994, its goal has been merchant banking, specialising in trade finance. Its principal activity is that of providing customers, banks and individuals around the world but with particular emphasis on the Middle East, Africa Eastern Europe and Asia.
