Easisave Security Alert – Phishing attempts
28.02.2014
FIMBank is aware of a current scam targeting customers through fraudulent emails purportedly sent from Easisave. This e-mail states that the customer has an unread message and through a link included in the e-mail message, directs the customer to a counterfeit website page designed to mimic the authentic logon page so as to lure the visitor into thinking that he/she is actually logged on to the bank's genuine site.
Such email attacks are becoming more regular and commonly referred to as phishing, which is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, PINs, Access codes (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity. Customers should always be vigilant against such scams that seek to lure them into surrendering such information to a third party.
The following are a few tips to help you identify fraudulent emails:
• Links that may look legitimate but in reality are not. This can be checked by simply hovering the mouse over the link included in the email without clicking on the link. The email program should display the destination address. In this case it should be www.easisave.com.
• Always check for the “Green Bar”. An easy way to identify whether you really are on the legitimate Easisave website, is by looking at the bar that has the www.easisave.com address. This bar should be green in colour and contain “FIMBANK P.L.C [MT]”.
• Dubious requests. FIMBank will not use email under any circumstance to request confidential information, such as personal information, passphrases related to your accounts or other information of a confidential nature. You will also never be asked to provide passwords over the phone by any representative of FIMBank.
We encourage customers to always be vigilant and observe standard information security precautions. For more information, customers may also contact the Easisave Helpdesk on telephone 21322102.
